MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participant’s t civic and current affairs, effective communication, global issues and multilateral diplomacy. In standard Model UN, participants research country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult and then develop solutions to world problems.

During a conference, participants must employ a variety of communications and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. Students have to support and defend their country’s stand and policies irrespective of their own personal views on the issue; this can sometimes prove to be a veritable challenge.Students have benefited from and enjoyed this interactive learning experience. It not only involves young people in the study and discussion of global issues, but also encourages the development of skills useful throughout their lives, such as research, writing, public speaking, problem solving, consensus building, conflict resolution and compromise and cooperation.

We, at Vivek High School recognise the positive impact that such conferences have on our students and have been actively participating in MUN’s.In the last two years, students of VHS have participated in number of well-known and prestigious MUN’s such as Doon School Model United Nations Conference (2008 and 2009), DPS RK Puram Model United Nations Conference (2008), Wordz MUN (2008 and 2009) and DAV MUN (2009) at Gurgaon.

We, at Vivek have realised the importance and integral contribution of the MUN experience in the overall and well-rounded development of a child’s personality and, hence it is our sincere endeavour to promote our children’s participation in these conferences. We even hope to start our very own VHS MUN in the near future.
